3 DIY Garage Storage Solutions To Eliminate Clutter

Has your garage become a dumping ground for random items you don’t want to store inside your home? You no longer need to cringe every time you pull your car in and see a messy mountain of items. Check out these DIY garage storage solutions to eliminate clutter and regain control of your space once and for all.

Tool Wall Storage

Garage storage doesn’t need to be elaborate if it gets the job done. If you have random tools piled in a corner, do yourself a favor and create a wall storage solution. All you need is a piece of plywood, a handful of nails, and an empty wall in your garage.

Simply hammer nails into the plywood to act as hooks for your tools. If you want to hang larger tools, be sure to leave enough room between nails to accommodate their size. Plus, if you have longer equipment, such as a crowbar, you’ll want to lay it on the board to mark where the nail should go before hammering. By plotting your grid ahead of time, you’ll avoid running out of much-needed storage space.

Pool Noodle Hanging Organizer

Another ingenious DIY garage storage solution to eliminate clutter is a pool noodle hanging organizer. Did you know your garage could benefit from pool noodles? You can use a foam tube to organize long-handled items such as brooms, mops, and fishing poles.

To create the hanging organizer, start by slicing a pool noodle in half lengthwise using a serrated kitchen knife or electric knife. Next, cut evenly spaced vertical slices to hold the item’s handle in place. Once you’ve affixed the noodle organizer to your garage wall and placed each handle in a slot, you’ll no longer have equipment sitting in a haphazard pile on the floor.

Seasonal Decor Bags

If you store seasonal decor in your garage, such as artificial Christmas trees, wreaths, or wooden lawn signs, you know these items can take up a lot of room. Luckily, there’s an easy way to corral the clutter. Canvas storage bags are a simple yet effective way to protect and consolidate your holiday items. Plus, by storing your things in bags, you can keep them free of the dirt and dust that permeates every garage.

Keep in mind that there are storage bags specifically designed for certain items. If you need to pack a stack of wreaths, look for a circular option. For an artificial tree, find a bag that’s long and wide. Once you fill the bags, add a dryer sheet before zippering to deter insects and other unwanted critters from invading.
